If you want a famous smile, getting braces is a great way to start. After all, many of your favorite celebrities and characters have sported orthodontics, and many more boast perfect, megawatt grins.  Whether you’re looking for motivation, inspiration, or self-identification, here are a few pop culture moments where braces took center stage!

Faith Hill’s Award Show Stunner

Country music artist Faith Hill set tongues wagging when she arrived at the Grammy awards rocking braces in 2013. The singer even coordinated her rubber bands with her pale pink gown, showing that yes, you can sport orthodontic equipment at an upscale event!

“Ew!”

Jimmy Fallon is famous for his celebrity interviews and sketches, including the “Ew” video he made with hip hop star will.i.am. In the skit, the entertainers play Sara and mir.i.am, two teenage girls who rap about all the things they think are gross. Both characters wear braces, and will.i.am’s alter ego even sports classic orthodontic headgear!

Cindy Crawford’s Throwback Smile

Back in the 90s, supermodels had major star power, and Cindy Crawford was one of the top talents at the time. In one famous Pepsi commercial, she shocked fans when she opened her mouth to smile, revealing a sparkly set of braces befitting her gorgeous grin!

Lisa Needs Braces

The long-running animated classic “The Simpsons” has a way of perfectly encapsulating what’s going on in the world with both humor and irony. In one particularly timeless episode, Homer Simpson and his coworkers square off with their employer Mr. Burns when the nuclear power plant cuts their dental benefits, just as he learns his daughter Lisa needs braces. Homer eventually forms and heads a workers’ union to restore their benefits and ensure his greedy boss can’t pull another power trip on them!

Remember, while it may feel strange to have braces on your teeth, they’re quite common and as these pop culture icons have proven, should never stop you from letting your star shine!

About Our Practice

At Washington Dental Associates, our practice was born from the concept that everyone deserves excellent oral health care. Our founder, Dr. LaCap was inspired to become a dentist following her own need for dental care as a child. She knew that not everyone was fortunate enough to have access to a dentist, and to this day it motivates her and the team to help provide high quality services to each patient, no matter their background.
